The Cameron PAC would like to thank everyone who took the time to complete the recent survey on the 2015 School District Budget. Overall, it is clear that Cameron parents are very concerned about the current level of funding for public education.
A summary of Cameron parents’ responses can be found here: Cameron Elementary PAC – 2015 Budget Input.
The report was provided to the School Board for discussion at their April, 14, 2015 meeting and the Burnaby DPAC, who will present feedback from parents across Burnaby at the District’s Partner Group Meeting on April 21, 2015.
Further information on the preliminary District budget, which will be finalized and submitted to the Ministry of Education on April 30, can be found here.
The Cameron Parent Advisory Council invites all parents to take a moment to complete a very brief survey on the 2015 School District budget.
As programs and services to students will be inevitably be affected by funding shortfalls this year, this is an important chance to let the School District and Trustees know what is important to you.
Comments are optional, but very welcome. All feedback will be presented to the School District via the Burnaby District Parent Advisory Council. The survey will be open until midnight on Sunday, April 13, 2015.

Thank you for your support! More information and news articles on the funding challenges facing the District can be found here.
The PAC would like to thank all the volunteers, wheel-spinners, and Save-on-Foods for a very successful fundraising event! A special thank you to the Cameron students who were so excited to help and, by all accounts, were very persuasive! The parents commented that the kids were so happy and proud to be part of the event.
In addition to raising $167 from Spin The Wheel, we sold over sixty bars of chocolate in less than an hour, and received some generous donations from those who didn’t want to buy chocolate.
Thanks again for making Cameron such a great community!
On Monday, March 30 from 3:00 to 7:00pm, the Cameron PAC will be hosting a Spin the Wheel event at the Save On Foods at North Rd. and Cameron St. Shoppers can pay to spin the wheel to win Save On More points.
Money raised at this event is kept in an account for us at Save On Foods; we use this account to buy supplies for many events such as Staff Appreciation, the Multicultural Dinner, and the Pancake Breakfast.
We hope to see you there!

This year, the Burnaby School District is facing significant financial challenges. The Burnaby District Parent Advisory Council has released a statement strongly opposing the Provincial cuts to education, and is working with PACs across Burnaby to gather feedback on this year’s District budget.
As the budget is not yet final, this is an important opportunity to let the District know what is important to Cameron parents. Is it English Language Support? Special needs funding? Classroom resources? Loss of custodian hours? Music and library programs? All feedback is valuable and encouraged!
Thank you to all parents who attended the February 17 Parent Information Session on Social and Emotional learning (SEL)!
For those who were unable to attend, we have uploaded a handout summarizing the presentation. The handout explains the five core competencies of Social and Emotional Learning and the 7 Habits. As as school, Cameron has chosen the language of the 7 Habits to explore the concept of SEL. They are from the book The Seven Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey, which is available from Burnaby Public Library.
As part of the Student Led Conferences on March 4, the school invites you to visit the gym where classes will have 7 Habits activities from Kindergarten to Grade 7, as well as a variety of other displays.
